Semi Ajayi’s injury comeback is all but guaranteed for Monday’s Championship match between West Brom and Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena, according to manager Carlos Corberán. The midweek 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers saw the Nigerian international excluded from the matchday squad due to a recurrence of an ankle injury that had kept him out of the starting lineup for three straight games prior to the international break.

Ajayi is a serious doubt for the trip to Coventry, according to Corberán, who made this admission during the pre-game press conference. The precise duration of his absence has not yet been announced.

Corberán stated, as quoted by Express and Star: “It’s crucial to avoid losing any more players, but Semi keeps getting injured and other players are still dealing with injuries.” I am in the same situation with this (a’miracle’ for Ajayi to be ready), it’s a challenge,” the Spanish football tactician continued. He has grade two ligament damage in his ankle; this is a distinct kind of injury, and we must monitor his progress. He’s making his best but he’s still a big question mark for the next game.

Ajayi’s fitness status will be closely watched by the Nigeria Football Federation and manager Jose Peseiro, as the central defender may be invited to two important 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. This month, the former captain of the Arsenal youth team played in a friendly match against Saudi Arabia while at a training camp in Portugal.
