Everton are keen to sign Rosenborg sensation Sverre Nypan after watching him in action, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Merseysiders have a “concrete” interest in the 16-year-old after the club’s scouts watched him against Hearts last week (17 August).

Football Insider revealed on 19 August that Man City are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, who is seen by talent spotters as the “next Martin Odegaard”.

However, it is believed that Everton feel they can offer Nypan a quicker pathway to first-team football than he is likely to find at the Etihad Stadium.

The teenager started against Hearts and played the full 90 minutes with scouts in attendance as Rosenborg were eliminated from Europa Conference League qualifying with a 3-1 second-leg defeat.

He had racked up three assists in three qualifiers so far this season.

Nypan is a left-footed central midfielder with outstanding technical ability, creativity and maturity way beyond his years.

The starlet does not turn 17 until December but is already a fixture in the Rosenborg first team.

He has started eight and turned out in 13 of a possible 19 Eliteserien games this term, notching two goals and one assist.

Nypan has also been capped by his country, Norway, at the Under-15, Under-16, and Under-17 levels.

He could be part of a golden generation for his country, which has also seen world superstars Odegaard and Erling Haaland emerge in recent years.

The youngster has a contract with Rosenborg running until 2025 after penning an extension with his boyhood club last year.

In other news, 27-year-old set for Everton medical after terms agreed.
