Following the revelation that expenses at Ibrox had topped £108 million, John Bennett has called for Rangers to have “consistent success” in the transfer market, as reported by the Daily Record.

The Ibrox club hopes to appoint a new sporting director before the end of the month, with Bennett hoping to step up their player trading model, according to a report in the newspaper’s print edition (November 14, back page and page 46).

This information follows Rangers’ most recent financial statements, which revealed a £4.1 million loss as Ibrox expenses rose from £97 million to £108 million after Michael Beale’s summer of aggressive hiring.

After Ross Wilson left the Light Blues in April, Beale was left to manage the summer transfer window on his own. However, Bennett is eager for the team to continue having success in the transfer market going forward, and part of that strategy includes hiring a new sporting director.

Purchasing any player entails some risk because it is never certain that a new player will succeed at a new team and hit the ground running. However, following a disorganised approach this summer, the Rangers most definitely need to adjust their approach.

During the summer transfer window, Beale took a lot of chances, but not many of them have turned out to be wise investments thus far. While Danilo and Jack Butland have shown promise early on, Glasgow’s Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers are still lagging behind.

Although expenses have increased by £11 million, there isn’t much evidence to suggest that the current team is any better than it was when the Gers’ previous financial statements were made public. Hopefully, a new sporting director will ensure success in upcoming transfer windows.

Rangers are unable to afford to spend this much money and remain unsuccessful. With the signing of Philippe Clement, they’ve finally got the right man in the dugout. Now, to make sure Rangers can succeed in the upcoming years, they need to make sure the right people are working under him.
