Wrexham AFC has gained a great deal of new fans from far outside of Wales thanks to the efforts of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in raising the team’s profile.

AHEAD OF TIME?
This cause has benefited from the FX documentary “Welcome to Wrexham,” which features behind-the-scenes footage of events both on and off the pitch. Under their Hollywood owners, the Red Dragons have had a great deal of success. The team broke all previous records last season when they were promoted from the National League.

THE LARGER IMAGE
Reynolds and McElhenney aren’t done spreading the word about Wrexham; the team has now partnered with the “Men in Blazers” podcast in an attempt to gain more traction in America and encourage listeners there to “fall in love” with a team that plays its home games thousands of miles away in the United Kingdom.

WHAT IT SAYS
Regarding that collaboration, McElhenney stated: “It’s difficult not to fall in love with Wrexham AFC right away because of the team, city, and community.” I’m happy that Men in Blazers and SToK are collaborating to offer their American audiences a weekly peek at the club, enabling a fresh group of people to experience the happiness (and occasionally suffering) that this group can provide.

The Men in Blazers Media Network co-founder Roger Bennett continued, saying, “Wrexham AFC are the greatest micro-megapower football has ever seen.” With “Welcome to Wrexham,” the team has connected with a sizable worldwide audience who share their connection to the team’s journey of joy, significance, and genuine inclusivity. We hope that by presenting the story of their current season week by week, game by game, and emotion by emotion, “This Week in Wrexham” will do just that.

AHEAD OF YOU?
The “first weekly stream of content for the American audience, allowing them to connect with the club both on and off the pitch, giving them more reasons to support and build a genuine connection with the club and brand” will be provided by the Wrexham-Men in Blazers partnership. The aim is to “create a platform that gives Wrexham fans around the world a deep emotional connection to both the club and the town that surrounds it.” To that end, thirty weekly episodes covering events in North Wales will be produced.

Next what?
Monthly “deep-dive digital specials along with a leading Wrexham figure from the playing staff or back office” will also be held. Star striker Paul Mullin is scheduled to open the series by talking about a variety of subjects with a Wrexham theme running through them.
