The gifted midfield player has been linked to a January transfer to the massive Scottish team.

When the January transfer window opens, Glasgow Rangers head coach Philippe Clement will get his first chance to add players of his own at Ibrox.

The Belgian tactician joined the team after the summer transfer window closed, and he has already been connected to a move for a Scottish Premiership player.

Rangers is one of several teams interested in a deal to sign Motherwell starlet Lennon Miller in 2024, according to a recent TEAMtalk report.

The source stated that the 17-year-old midfielder is being watched by a number of teams, including West Ham United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Celtic, and Tottenham Hotspur. He could be available in January.

TEAMtalk did not, however, specify whether the Gers are prepared to formally express their interest in acquiring his services or how much it would cost to do so before the second half of the campaign begins.

By obtaining a contract for Miller, Clement may discover the ideal successor to current central midfielder Ryan Jack, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The statistical season of Ryan Jack
The Scotland international has started in the starting lineup four times and has appeared in eight Premiership games thus far in the 2023–24 season. In addition, he has started one of his two Europa League games this season.

Although the seasoned ace has made 28 ball recoveries, Jack has made just one tackle and zero interceptions in his eight league games for the Gers, offering little defensive protection for his back four.

The 31-year-old, who has only scored one goal and provided zero assists, has also lost 64% of his duels in the Premier League, which has allowed opponents to outmuscle him in physical confrontations.

These numbers indicate that Clement could strengthen his team by adding a player to take Jack’s place and give him additional options in the midfield, something Miller could accomplish.

Numbers from Lennon Miller’s season

This season, the 17-year-old battler has shown himself to be an excellent Premiership performer with his impressive defensive performances in the middle of the park.

Despite his youth and inexperience, Miller has proven that he can consistently put up strong performances at the first team level, so the Rangers may find him to be an exciting addition both now and down the road.

In nine Premiership games, the teenage dynamo—who Steven Hammell called a “fantastic” gem—has drawn attention with nine interceptions, 23 tackles, and an impressive 69 ball recoveries.

These defensive attributes demonstrate that Miller can thwart opposition attacks more frequently than Jack, as evidenced by their respective contributions when the ball is out of possession.

The 17-year-old Motherwell player has also won 71% of his duels this season, and because of his consistent ability to dominate opposing players, he has provided more physicality to his team than the Scottish metronome has for Rangers.

Therefore, if Rangers can sign Miller in January to be Jack’s successor, they could secure a potential upgrade for their midfield while also bringing in a player who has plenty of time on his hands to develop and improve.
