The news that one of Glasgow Rangers’ first-team stars might miss Thursday’s Europa League match against Aris due to injury has come as a blow to the team.
Rangers injury updates
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. UK time this evening at Ibrox, where the Light Blues will host Akis Mantzios’ team. Although they will be hoping for a win, they will have to try to do so without a number of squad members for various reasons.
Nicolas Raskin, Ryan Jack, and Kemar Roofe are currently sidelined by Philippe Clement due to personal issues; Connor Goldson is suspended; Leon Balogun and Ridvan Yilmaz will also not be available for selection.
Scott Wright originally joined the team in February 2021 after leaving Aberdeen. During his two years in the Scottish Premiership, he established himself as a regular member of the first team, but this season, the right-winger has been in and out of the lineup a lot.
According to WhoScored’s Wright statistics, Scotland’s former youth international has made one start and the same amount of substitute appearances in the Europa League. However, if the upcoming update is accurate, the 26-year-old may have to wait to play again.
Scott Wright might not be included.
During his pre-game press conference on Wednesday, Clement acknowledged that Wright might not be able to play against Aris in tonight’s crucial home game.
He stated, as reported by Rangers’ official X account: “We have a few players out who were not chosen for the European squad. Jack and Raskin won’t return just yet. Scott Wright is questionable for tomorrow due to a physical problem.
Wright lacks a true “driving force” for the Rangers.
Wright has been out of the league starting lineup eight times since the season began, but he has demonstrated his ability in the past by posting 16 goal contributions, including nine goals and seven assists, while he was a Rangers player (Transfermarkt – Wright statistics).
Having played seven different positions since entering the professional ranks, including three front-line roles and four midfield roles, the Aberdeen-born talent is also a versatile operator. Because of his adaptability, he is a great asset to the team.
As a member of the squad that won the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, Clement’s forward has even assisted in contributing to trophies while donning the blue shirt. As such, the manager will have access to a winning mentality.
Journalist Josh Bunting has called Wright a “driving force,” so the manager would be severely harmed by his potential absence. He will want his best team available to give them the best chance of winning under the lights.
