Despite a history of conflict with the club, an ex-Premier League striker is eager to join Wrexham, potentially making their largest signing to date.
Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham, and since then, the Welsh team has experienced an incredible journey that has resulted in promotion to League 2. With five points separating them from league leaders Stockport and a goal differential that puts them ahead of third-place Barrow, Wrexham is currently second in the league.
The FA Cup replay that Wrexham and Sheffield United played in January of this year, which ended in an amazing 3-3 draw, was one of the team’s recent high points.
The 95th-minute equaliser was the only thing preventing the Welsh team from moving on to the next round. Sadly, they lost the replay 3-1 at Bramall Lane.
Billy Sharp, a striker for the Blades, was a major talking point during the two games because he did not like Wrexham’s mindset. Following the draw, Sharp said, “I think they’ve been disrespectful with a few things before the game, thinking they were already through. I’m glad we beaten them,” he continued.
Continuing to express his annoyance, the English striker said, “They thought we would just roll over when they got back in it, and I think the referee was helping them as well.”
Sharp, who moved to LA Galaxy in the summer after leaving Sheffield United for the third time, scored five goals in 12 MLS games, five more than Lionel Messi.
Despite his earlier remarks, Sharp was recently speaking about the possibility of joining Wrexham after being released by the US club. I’m not resentful. On the William Hill podcast “No Tippy Tappy Football,” Sharp stated, “Why not, if that were one of my better options? Given that the 37-year-old is most known for his goal-scoring prowess in the EFL, a transfer might make a lot of sense.
