Aston Villa have appointed former Walsall official Dan Mole as the club’s football secretary.

The 43-year-old spent over 20 years at Walsall in a variety of different roles. Mole began as the Saddlers’ first full-time press officer in 2002.

He went on to become Walsall’s club secretary in 2009 before joining their board in 2015. Mole was then appointed chief operating officer in 2019.

“I have loved my time at Walsall,” he said via BBC Sport. “The club has been a massive part of mine and my family’s life for over 20 years.

“I have met some wonderful people along the way, from chairmen to colleagues, players to supporters. The opportunity to work in the Premier League is one that I am relishing.”

The Villans have been transformed since the appointment of Unai Emery in October 2022. Villa have gone from a struggling Premier League side to a team playing European football for the first time in over a decade as they chase a top four finish this season.

Emery’s team take on champions Manchester City at Villa Park on Wednesday as they chase a club-record 14th consecutive win at Villa Park in the league. Victory will also see them move above Pep Guardiola’s side in the table.
