Steve Cooper, the manager of Nottingham Forest, was fired after just one win in 13 games.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves and Spurs, is in talks with the club and appears likely to replace him.

Cooper suffered a 2-0 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, and Forest has only managed one point in their last five games.

“Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club,” stated Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of the forest. Undoubtedly, his success in leading Forest back to the Premier League will go down as a pivotal point in the Club’s history.

“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and city of Nottingham” .

“Steve will always remain a friend of the Club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground” .

Despite a crushing 5-0 loss to Fulham recently, Forest supporters continued to chant his name at full time, which has caused division among the team’s supporters over his firing.

numerous believed that Cooper had a great tenure at Forest, leading them to promotion through the playoffs in 2022 and a 16th-place finish in the 2022–2023 campaign despite numerous predictions of relegation.

He spent big in the summer of 2022, breaking the previous record of new signings by one club in a transfer window, bringing in 21 players and spending close to £150 million.

However, his recent form has left Forest five points above the drop and worried for their top-flight safety.

Now, his new rumoured successor Nuno Espírito Santo, will have to work with the squad that Cooper built and hope that he can make it click.

Forest Owner Evangelos Marinakis said “Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club. His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtably remain an iconic moment in the Club’s history”.

“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and city of Nottingham” .

“Steve will always remain a friend of the Club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground” .

The team has stated that they will shortly make an announcement on the hiring of a new head coach.

Who is Nuno Espírito Santo?

Nuno has coached Wolverhampton Wanderers, Porto, Valencia, and Tottenham Hotspur; however, his most recent experience was in the Saudi Professional League with Al-Ittihad.

After less than four months in command, he was fired last month and removed from his most recent Premier League match with Tottenham.

But Nuno is most remembered for his success with Wolves, not for his failings elsewhere.

In 2018, Nuno brought Wolves back into the Premier League from the Championship, where they had been out for six years.

He then led Wolves to seventh place in their inaugural season, which was Wolves’ second-highest finish in the top tier and one of the best ever for a freshly promoted team in the Premier League.

Nuno followed that up with another seventh place finish and Wolves’ highest-ever Premier League point total.

Along the way, he even made it to a Europa League quarterfinal.

Nuno is regarded by Wolves supporters as their most successful manager of the Premier League era and possibly their most successful manager of all time. Nuno left Wolves in 2021 with mutual consent.

Supporters of Forest will be hopeful that the former Nuno can lead his team out of the relegation zone and establish them as a reliable Premier League squad.
