Leading scorer for Wrexham, Elliot Lee, says he will be happy if Paul Mullin surpasses him in the club’s pursuit of promotion.

After missing the first month of the season due to a horrific injury he sustained on the team’s preseason tour of America, Mullin, his strike partner, has already scored seven goals. Lee told the Wrexham Leader, “We laugh about it, but he [Mullin] wants me to score more and I want him to score more.” “He wants me to beat him, and I want to beat him. We have boys just like that in there. We are scoring a lot of goals, so I hope Mulls beats me because I want to celebrate with the team at the end of the season. Personal accolades are lovely but I always think that at the end of the season, if I get top goalscorer, player of the season or whatever, I can’t really celebrate with anyone else if we don’t get promoted.

Lee’s remarks highlight the strong sense of brotherhood among the Racecourse Ground players, but there’s also a practical consideration at work because Wrexham will need a lot of goals in what is expected to be an incredible title race. The pace has been set by free-scoring Stockport County, who have scored 49 goals to take a six-point lead atop League Two. If Wrexham hopes to be considered for a second straight promotion, Lee and Mullin will both need to continue finding the net.
