Derby County are still in the hunt for a striker ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline day and Peterborough’s Jonson Clarke-Harris is of interest.
The 29-year-old will either head to the Rams or Bristol Rovers before the window draws to a close according to Darren Witcoop, it is down to the player himself to make the decision.
Clarke-Harris scored against Paul Warne’s side last weekend as the Posh fell to a 4-2 defeat on home soil and was publicly made available for transfer at the beginning of the summer.
Twice the winner of the League One golden boot in recent seasons, the Jamaica international has featured in the third tier team of the season on several occasions and would prove to be a statement signing if Derby were able to beat the Gas to his signature.
Currently at Warne’s disposal in the striking department is Martyn Waghorn, Conor Washington, Tyreece John-Jules and James Collins. The latter would be likely to depart should Derby add Clarke-Harris to their ranks.
Waghorn has been in fine form for the Rams this season, scoring five in his last three outings including a 16-minute hat-trick against the Posh last time out. Washington has proved a lively addition, whereas new signing John-Jules has only made a cameo appearance to date and Collins has struggled for form.
Is Clarke-Harris the man?
The Peterborough player scored 29 goals last term and has a further two to his name this season. His knack for finding the net at this level is undeniable and he would no doubt add firepower to the Rams frontline.
It is expected to be a busy couple of days for Derby who are still aiming to add two or three players to their squad before the close of play with departures also on the cards. This deal could be one to keep an eye on as it may be part of a chain reaction of movement in and out from Pride Park.
