STEVEN FLETCHER says his move to Wrexham has been “a breath of fresh air”.

He might have experienced a lot during a career which includes spells in the top flights of England, Scotland and France but the 36-year-old striker says playing for Wrexham, who have enjoyed worldwide publicity under Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has been a real eye-opener.

“At this stage in my career and the age I am at, it is like a breath of fresh air for me.

“The lads, the staff, the fans and what’s going on it the background, it is great.

“When I got the phone call it was a no brainer for me to take the opportunity, and hopefully I can repay it

I took a little step against Barrow.”

Fletcher revealed Deadpool star Reynolds had already text him to congratulate him on his treble before the striker spoke with the media.

“You come off the pitch after scoring a goal and Ryan texts you before the wife texts you,” he added.

“It is surreal but it is good.

“The hype around the place, you come in for training days and there’s loads of people outside the stadium.

“I have played for Premier League teams where you don’t see that. It is a good hype and it is enjoyable.”

Wrexham bounced back from the 3-1 defeat to Walsall in the final game of 2023 by beating Barrow to make it nine points from four games in 10 days over the festive period.

Phil Parkinson’s men are third in the table, two points behind leaders Stockport with a game in a hand, and Fletcher says it was productive period for the Reds.

“It was a great result for us, we needed it after the weekend,” he added.

“It is a tough period for everyone but three out of four is good going for us.
