Rangers’ undefeated streak, which had been a highlight of Philippe Clement’s first season in charge, came to an abrupt end in the Old Firm derby as Celtic took all three points to retake the lead in the Scottish Premiership title race. With two games remaining and eight points behind their opponents, the Gers must now use the January transfer window to get closer to them.
Having said that, there are rumors circulating that Rangers has made a comeback to the Premier League in an effort to get a new player to replace Clement. This would come after Fabio Silva, a striker for Wolverhampton Wanderers, arrived at the beginning of the month.

It is unclear if Silva will find his scoring touch at Ibrox, but if he does, Rangers will have pulled off one of the best trades of the January transfer window. The forward might not be the only addition coming from the top division in England; according to reports, the Scottish powerhouses are apparently considering a return to the Premier League to acquire Owen Beck of Liverpool.
Rangers have reportedly made an attempt to recruit Liverpool teenager Beck this month, according to Simon Jones of The Daily Mail, via Ibrox News. But according to reports, Liverpool has already rejected any attempts by Ibrox authorities to sign the left-back, preferring to utilize Beck as a backup for the injured Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
Although the full-back was just called up from Scottish Premiership team Dundee, it doesn’t seem likely that he would return to the league by moving to Ibrox this month. Borna Barisic’s contract expires in the summer, and Ridvan Yilmaz isn’t yet able to establish himself at left back, so Rangers will now need to go elsewhere for help after Liverpool apparently rejected them.
For Clement, “Popular” Beck would be ideal.
Beck would have easily transitioned into the current Rangers lineup after making 17 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Dundee this season, which makes Liverpool’s alleged refusal all the more disappointing. The full-back, who is 21 years old, is probably going to get better too, which would have provided Clement with a long-term fix for his left-back problems. But the former AS Monaco manager needs to keep looking before the transfer window closes.
Given the recognition that Beck received while on loan at Dundee, it should come as no surprise that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have chosen to cling onto him. Tony Docherty, who stated in October via The Courier that Owen is doing incredibly well and has international notoriety as well, it wouldn’t be surprising if people are talking about him, is one of those with a lot of good things to say. However, he’s a really well-mannered youngster and well-liked here.
“I think he enjoys playing here – the football side of it and the camaraderie in the dressing-room as well. We’ll just keep his feet on the ground and he’ll, hopefully, keep performing the way he’s performing. That level of consistency will attract attention.”
