The Bulldogs add much-needed depth at quarterback by landing the former Rebels QB.
The Georgia Bulldogs were eager to add depth to the quarterback position after losing Brock Vandagriff to the transfer portal and missing out on five-star prospect Dylan Raiola. The Bulldogs did just that on Monday by landing a young quarterback with an exciting amount of upside.
Former UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava has committed to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Maiava comes to Athens with three years of eligibility remaining.
Maiava’s decision comes roughly a week after visiting Georgia. He will join a quarterback room that includes senior Carson Beck, sophomore Gunner Stockton, and true freshman Ryan Puglisi.
Maiava shined during his redshirt freshman season as the Rebels’ starting quarterback. In 14 games, Maiava completed 63.5% of his attempts for 3,085 yards with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Maiava will be joining an SEC program, but he’s no stranger to facing competition from the conference. Maiava led UNLV to an upset victory over Vanderbilt on Sept. 16 and in the process went 19-of-33 through the air for 261 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
Maiava went back and forth about staying at UNLV. He ultimately entered the transfer portal on Jan. 1.
Maiava redshirted during his true freshman season in 2022 after signing with the Rebels as a three-star prospect from Liberty High School in Henderson, Nevada. He led the Patriots to the state championship game in 2021 and threw for 2,027 yards and 24 touchdowns in the process.
The Georgia Bulldogs went into 2024 hoping to find reinforcements at quarterback. Ultimately, they landed their man in the form of a standout Mountain West QB.
