Conor Coventry will fetch West Ham United around to £1 million from Charlton Athletic, according to Sean Whetstone.
On Thursday, January 11, the editor of 6foot2 revealed via the X account West Ham Football that the 23-year-old midfielder’s departure from the London Stadium during the January transfer window will cost the Hammers a seven-figure sum.
Coventry may be scheduled to play for Charlton Athletic and make his League One debut against Burton Albion on Saturday, January 13, provided the paperwork is completed on time and he passes his medical examination within the next 24 hours.
Richard Cawley (January 11) reports that Coventry’s team had continued to negotiate with Sheffield Wednesday, a Championship team, till Thursday. However, in the afternoon, the team withdrew from negotiations after reaching a long-term agreement with Charlton.
Good price
In order to fund their own hiring prior to the second half of the Premier League season, West Ham is hoping to raise money during the January transfer window.
They will first need to lower their pay expenditure, and the easiest way to achieve so is by offloading players who don’t fit David Moyes’ objectives. Although Coventry won’t be among the Hammers’ highest earners, West Ham can now afford his salary.
Furthermore, considering his youth, the Irons made a great financial decision by selling a youngster who hasn’t played a single game this season for a seven-figure sum.
The majority of West Ham fans will wish the 23-year-old luck at his new team, but if it means Moyes can finally bolster his roster this month, they won’t regret seeing him go.
