Nordsjaelland on the Danish side is where Philippe Clement is expected to make his second addition for the summer window.

Finally, Rangers are about to intensify their January hiring campaign as they go closer to signing Mohamed Diomande, the star from Nordsjaelland.

The 22-year-old midfield player is en route to Glasgow, according to sources in Denmark last night, as Gers manager Philippe Clement gets ready to seal his second signing of the season. Ibrox’s January window has started slowly, with Fabio Silva being the only new player to show up thus far after moving on loan from Wolves. This week, though, Clement hopes to lift things up a notch, with Ivory Coast Under 23 international Diomande leading a small wave of reinforcements.

Chiefs at Nordsjaelland have given the highly regarded Ivory Coast international clearance to go from their US training camp. In the coming days, he will go to Scotland for a medical examination before meeting with Nils Koppen, the head of recruitment at Ibrox, and chief executive James Bisgrove to finalize what is anticipated to be a long-term contract.

Diomande, a left-footed player who was previously linked to RB Leipzig and Union Berlin, will provide Rangers a much-needed creative spark. For Nordsjaelland, who are now fifth in the Danish Superliga, the strong ball carrier has occupied a number of midfield roles.

But Clement may well be eying him up to fill the No10 slot in Govan having already allowed misfit Sam Lammers to leave this month. And he could also provide cover on Gers’ left wing following the news that Abdallah Sima has sustained a thigh injury during his duties at AFCON.

The Senegal forward is the Light Blues’ second top scorer with 15 goals but is now on his way back to Glasgow to be assessed after medics from his national team warned he faces “a long period of unavailability”. Diomande came through the prestigious Right to Dream academy in Ghana, before joining their partners Nordsjaelland in Denmark.

“If they show me ambition they will get chances, they know. I see a squad that is pushing every day to be in the starting 11 and we need to continue in that way with a few transfers in the next couple of days or the next few weeks and then we want to challenge everybody. We will see, we are working hard on that.
