Kyle McFadzean, a defender who was set to expire at the end of the summer, has decided to leave Coventry City ahead of the January transfer window deadline. According to CoventryLive, McFadzean is joining Blackburn Rovers and is being released by the Sky Blues by mutual consent. The 36-year-old’s exceptional tenure has seen him help Coventry establish themselves as champions, win promotion from League One, and return to the Championship, including participating in the play-off campaign that finished in the championship game at Wembley Stadium last season.
Following Coventry’s 2-2 draw with Bristol City at the CBS Arena on Tuesday night, the team’s manager, Mark Robins, announced that there will be departures.
“I believe that at least one is leaving. He stated, “There could be three outs, or there could be two outs.” When asked if they were senior players, he responded, “I’ll let you know.” Although there will inevitably be some moving out, I believe that we really need to attempt to keep everyone together.
In response to the question of whether McFadzean, midfielder Liam Kelly, and third-choice goalkeeper Simon Moore—all of whom were left out of the Bristol matchday squad—fit into the group of experienced players who may be surplus, Robins said, “We’ll have to wait and see.” We’re currently at the status quo, but I’ll let you know if anything changes with anybody.
