ALABASTER, AL — At Michigan, whether you were an offensive or defensive player, everyone seemed to remember the new head coach Sherrone Moore.

Less than a week ago, Moore was unveiled as the Wolverines’ new head coach. This week at the Senior Bowl, at least, the Michigan players in attendance talked highly of the 37-year-old former offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Offensive lineman Trevor Keegan told MLive in an interview that “he meant everything to me.” “I’m thrilled and delighted for him. I will always be appreciative of what he has done for me.

Still to this day, Keegan recalls being a 16-year-old Illinois high school player who received a scholarship offer from Moore, who was Central Michigan’s assistant at the time. Although Keegan never committed, Keegan was certain to join Moore when he moved to Michigan in the beginning of 2018.

Keegan went on, “We’ve been on this journey together for five years.” Observing how he has progressed through our program to become head coach excites me much about what he will do this season.

Players applauded Jim Harbaugh, the departing head coach, as well, but Moore’s ascension was seen as the right choice. Jaylen Harrell, an edge rusher, stated, “There was no need for an interview search like that,” citing the four wins in which Moore filled in as interim head coach.

“Premium teams such as Ohio State and Penn State,” Harrell stated. “There it was—the interview. And he became an expert at it. He’ll be well, I’m sure, as long as the correct people around him on the crew.

Moore still has work to do in terms of staff development, as he has three new coordinators to hire. The NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers are getting go of defensive coordinator Jesse Minter this week, and special teams coach Jay Harbaugh is probably going to follow.

Edge rusher Braiden McGregor praised Moore’s quick rise within the coaching profession, citing his 2022 transition from tight ends to offensive line coach and co-coordinator to head offensive coordinator. He was at Central when I received my first offer (Michigan). My initial proposal was that. I got to know him from there, and I find it sort of odd that he kept moving up the ladder.

He’s the head coach at Michigan right now. Fantastic, I’m glad for him.

Moore’s influence was also evident in the transfers from the previous season, particularly in the cases of offensive tackle LaDarius Henderson and tight end AJ Barner, who both had faith in the new Michigan head coach to get them playing time and justify their decision.

He’s an amazing coach, to start with, Barner remarked. Additionally, he cultivates bonds with his guys. Speaking with him is simple. All of those things work pretty nicely for him together.

Henderson declared, “I don’t think a better guy could have taken the spot.” I believe many teams would have liked to have him as their head coach because he is a fantastic guy. I mean, if he chose to go that path, probably even on a professional level. His future is incredibly bright.

Longtime NFL scout and Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy agreed that Moore’s hiring over Harbaugh was a logical one. Nagy rode the bus over with the majority of the Wolverines’ staff at the time, including Moore and then-defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and they struck up a conversation. The two reunited in 2021 during Harbaugh’s golf excursion in Michigan. According to Nagy, the hope is that

How come you didn’t offer him the position? How could you not? “said veteran NFL scout Nagy. “I’m overjoyed for him. Moreover, it provides program stability. It most likely prevented a slight raid on the roster, which always occurs (when a coach quits).
