‘What’s changed’: Alan Stubbs now reacts to Everton’s opening day defeat to Fulham
Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs has now responded to Everton’s 1-0 opening day defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
The Toffees fell to a 1-0 defeat to the visitors as Sean Dyche’s side could not find an opening goal despite countless chances, prompting Alan Stubbs to ask, ‘what’s changed’.
Everton created a plethora of opportunities to score and in fact could have been two or three goals to the good by half-time, though poor finishing was costly for the Blues.
Taking to Twitter following the defeat, former Everton player Alan Stubbs summed up the opening day defeat in 22 words, stating: “Played pretty well, created chances, never took them, VAR doesn’t look at disallowed goal, need new signings!!! What’s changed!!! 3pts lost today!!”
Indeed, it was a frustrating afternoon for Everton at Goodison Park with a copy and paste performance from many of last season’s fixtures at home.

New signings Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma made their competitive debuts for the club while fellow new arrival Youseff Chermiti watched from the stands.
However, the need to add goals to the squad was evident from the start, with countless chances created, though the Blues were wasteful in front of goal.
Abdoulaye Doucoure, Everton’s hero on the final day of the last campaign, squandered a glorious opportunity to open the scoring, while £15m forward Neal Maupay could well have had a first half hattrick.
Nathan Patterson was perhaps guiltiest of wastefulness, hitting the bar with an open goal in front of him after Alex Iwobi forced Bernd Leno into a save.
The Athletic today reports that Leeds United midfielder Jack Harrison is set to join the Toffees on an initial 12-month loan, and no doubt the 26-year-old will add some bite to Everton’s bark.
However, as if it wasn’t already clear what Everton need, the Blues must recruit a centre-forward before the summer transfer window closes, or there will likely be more frustrating days to come at Goodison Park.
