Problem position set to worsen for Leeds United as 19-y/o with two starts nears exit – Journalist
Leeds United defender Leo Hjelde is said to be closing in on a transfer to Serie A side Salernitana this week.
Leeds have very little room to allow more players to leave the club in the final weeks of the transfer window, but more outgoings are to be confirmed.
Daniel Farke’s defence is a major cause for concern just for the sheer lack of numbers that he has to choose from, especially at left-back.
Leo Hjelde to Salernitana?
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is now reporting that 19-year-old defender Leo Hjelde is attracting interest from Serie A club Salernitana.
Hjelde would join three other signings in heading to Salernitana, with Di Marzio not revealing whether the Leeds man would be joining on a permanent deal.
On site, Di Marzio wrote this:
“For the left wing, instead, the young Norwegian Leo Fuhr Hjelde, 19 years old, owned by Leeds. Again, the parties are very close, and they want to close soon.”
The Norway youth international has started twice this season for Leeds under Farke, coming off both times at half-time to be replaced by Sam Byram.
We are in no position to let more players go at this stage, even if Hjelde has not nearly been good enough so far.
Farke has been hamstrung incredibly by the amount of outgoings the club has been forced into, and this would be another strange one.
He’s still got great potential to develop and if this is a permanent deal, I’d hope we’re getting a good fee with a strong sell-on clause too.
