Everton are being tipped to complete a deal to sign a talented FC Porto winger despite the player currently having a €50m release clause inserted in his contract.
Money remains tight at Goodison Park but Sean Dyche still wants more bodies through the door before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1, with his forward line a particular area of focus.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin started Sunday’s game at Aston Villa but remains injury prone while back-up Neal Maupay has a woeful scoring record since arriving from Brighton in the summer of 2022
And, with that in mind, Dyche hopes to sign another forward-thinking player over the course of the next 12 days.
One of the players recently heavily linked with a move to Goodison is Porto winger Goncalo Borges, with Portuguese media continuing to mention Everton as a potential destination.
Indeed, Sunday’s edition of A Bola features an article about Borges and the fact that Everton and West Ham remain keen on a move.
The reports states that both Premier League clubs have the ‘financial capacity’ to get the deal done, despite the fact that the winger has a €50m release clause.
Porto are, in fact, asking for just €15m to part company with the player, who is unlikely to get that many first-team opportunities this season.
Much now depends on the player’s willingness to move and whether Everton or West Ham are willing to cough up what appears to be a bargain fee for a talented attacker.
