Nottingham Forest are edging closer to the signing of Victor Nelsson but they are still not quite at the valuation. Galatasaray are hoping to recoup the full £22 million release clause that the defender has in his contract.
According to Turkish outlet Aksam, the Reds have made another bid for the player in recent days. The bid is around £19 million but there is a growing belief that Forest will get their man in Nelsson.
Forest are in need of another central defender. Scott McKenna did look a little bit ragged against Sheffield United, whilst Felipe is currently nursing a knee injury.
The Reds do have Moussa Niakhate and Joe Worrall but they want to ensure they’re well-stocked. Nelsson would definitely provide competition for places and it seems as though he will leave this summer.
Forest might not be alone in the race to sign the 24-year-old this summer. Tottenham have been linked with the player in the past and it’s not clear whether Ange Postecoglou will look to sign another central defender.
Forest edging closer to Nelsson deal
It’s proving a bit of a strange deal this one. Ultimately, it should be noticed that anything that comes from the Turkish press should be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt.
However, since this is regarding a player at a Turkish club, it’s probably got some substance to it. Forest, it would seem, are getting closer to a deal but there’s a bit of a puzzling issue.
The Reds are only £3 million away from activating his release clause which would enable him to discuss terms with the player. Given that it’s such a small difference, it’s bizarre why they Reds haven’t just paid it.
Nelsson would be a very decent signing for Forest. He’s strong in the challenge, good in the air and would come with plenty of experience under his belt.
