Nottingham Forest are going to prioritise the signing of Bologna captain Nicolas Dominguez over the signing of Real Betis star Guido Rodriguez. The Reds are trying desperately to sign a new defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Dominguez is a new name that has come on the radar this week. He has been with Bologna for three years but has just a year to run on his existing deal. Now, he could move on this summer, with Forest keen to sign him.
In recent days, Forest have submitted a bid for Real Betis star Rodriguez. Forest only bid £5 million and it’s likely to take around £9 million to tempt the La Liga outfit into a sale. However, it doesn’t seem as though he’s the first choice at the City Ground.
According to Estadio Deportivo, the Reds are hoping to land Dominguez ahead of Rodriguez. He’s more of a pressing target right now and the Betis midfielder is perhaps viewed as a backup option should the 25-year-old not fancy it.
Rodriguez would still represent a pretty decent signing for Forest. He’s four years older though and at 29-years-old, it remains to be seen whether or not he would retain much sell-on value for the midfield warrior.
Forest to prioritise Bologna captain Dominguez over Rodriguez
This does look like a wise move from the Reds. Dominguez does look like a better fit and at 25, he fits the profile of the type of player that both Steve Cooper and George Syrianos like to sign.
Forest need to get their defensive midfield area sorted. They’ve been linked with several players in that area of the pitch and it’s clear that Cooper is keen to strengthen.
Dominguez is the current captain of Bologna. He’s made 111 appearances for the Serie A outfit since arriving from Velez Sarsfield in 2020 and is an integral part of their team.
This one could run deep into the transfer window. Dominguez might wait to see if a club in the Champions League comes forward and Forest might have to play a waiting game.
Either way, it looks as though things are starting to move. Syrianos has been added back to the recruitment team and he will hope to get a defensive midfielder sorted for Forest in the coming days.
