Here are your morning Leeds United headlines on Monday, August 28.
Leeds ‘make offer’ for Japanese international midfielder
Leeds United have made a first offer to sign Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka. That is according to German publication BILD, who say the 24-year-old has already made his intention clear to leave the 2 Bundesliga side.
Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart recently made an offer of around €2.7 million including bonuses which was rejected but it is believed Leeds’ offer is higher.
No agreement has been reached but the report claims manager Klaus Allofs and sporting director Christian Weber remain in talks with Leeds as the two clubs look to thrash out a deal.
Leeds United loan watch as Brenden Aaronson endures horror show with red card
Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson endured a rotten second appearance for Union Berlin. The American international was shown a red card for two bookable offences.
The Whites midfielder was shown his marching orders in the 21st minute with his side leading 1-0 against Bundesliga new boys Darmstadt. The hosts equalised three minutes after Aaronson’s dismissal, but the Champions League side rediscovered their composure and ran out 4-1 winners despite going down to ten men.
Sticking in the Bundesliga, Max Wober played the full 90 minutes as Borussia Monchengladbach were blown away by Bayer Leverkusen. The centre-half shipped three goals as their search for the first win of the season goes on.
Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente both started for Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in their 2-1 defeat to Verona. Both Leeds United players were replaced at half-time with Roma trailing 2-0 at the break.
Tyler Adams outlines ‘integral’ reason behind Leeds United departure and puts thanks on record
Tyler Adams says Bournemouth owner Bill Foley played an integral part in his decision to leave Leeds United and link up with the Cherries. The United States international made his move to the Vitality Stadium last week after the Premier League outfit activated the relegation release clause in his Elland Road contract.
Adams had been linked with a move to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge only for a move to collapse at the eleventh hour. The midfielder returned to Elland Road but only for a short time with Andoni Iraola’s side coming in to activate the clause in his contract.
The former Leeds midfielder told TNT Sport: “My first impressions of the club are the staff and environment that they’ve created here and this new culture that they’re trying to build, has been amazing. I’ve had a great conversation with Andoni leading up to my move to come here.
“I think the way that he wants to play, fits the way I play. That correlation in what they’re trying build here, I’m super excited to join the team.
“The interest came pretty early on after we found out we were going down with Leeds. It took a while because I was at a crucial time of my rehab with Leeds.
“I was very thankful for everyone at Leeds for what they did for me throughout that process. It’s never easy being on the sidelines and not being able to contribute.
“After I talked to the staff, the ownership group and exactly what wanted to do here I knew I could fit right in. I think I’m going to bring a little bit of tenacity to this team.
“The way that Andoni wants to play, which is a high press on the front foot, looking to win balls, I think that’s something that I’m good at and I’m certainly going to try and bring that here.”
