Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Mark Robins provides an update on his plans to let players go the other way

Mark Robins admits he’s reluctant to let any of his Coventry City squad go this week but could send one out on loan by close of play on Friday night.

The Sky Blues boss is hoping to add two more permanent signings to complete his summer recruitment this week, taking his in-coming tally to 12, with a central midfielder and centre-half his priority before the transfer window shuts.

That would give the manager sufficient numbers for competition and cover in a highly competitive squad, and allow at least one more player to go out on loan. That player is likely to be versatile teenager Ryan Howley who was deployed as a makeshift centre-half in pre-season due to a lack of numbers but whose natural position is as an attacking midfielder/No.10.

Asked by CoventryLive if he’s expecting any players to go out this week, Robins said: “At the moment we have had Jack Burroughs go out on loan to Lincoln and we are looking at potentially one other going out because they need to play. But at the moment we need to wait and assess the numbers because if we let one out now and then pick up a couple of injuries then it causes a major headache, so I want to try to hold onto them for the moment.

“But if we can bring in the players that we’re talking about then maybe we can do something there because it’s really important that players don’t stagnate, and it’s really unfair on players just to keep people in for that. But ultimately we need to do what’s right for us first, but we will try to do the right things. It has to make sense for everyone.”

Another player who could well move this week is goalkeeper Simon Moore who has slipped to third choice following the arrival of Brad Collins from Barnsley this summer. The 33-year-old, who is in his final year of his contract, is likely to want first team football, particularly considering his age and being in the prime of his career for a keeper and he and his agent may well be looking for a new club.
