The transfer deadline has arrived, but it’s unclear if Coventry City will have a busy day.

As the clock ticks down on today, Sky Blues manager Mark Robins has completed 10 summer acquisitions to date and has declared that he would like two more to finish his summer rebuild. A dynamic central midfielder and a left-footed center-half are his targeted areas to bolster.

Deals have been challenging to complete all summer, and these final two pieces of the puzzle are no exception as City searches for the necessary quality to elevate the club rather than settle for second-best to fill out the roster.

In recent weeks, the club has been linked to a number of players. Barnsley’s Liam Kitching is believed to have been on the Robins’ central defensive wish list. A £2.5 million approach that increased to $3 million was turned down by the League One team. Only the upcoming hours will reveal whether Coventry will try to test the Tykes’ determination with a better offer because they seem to be keeping their ground and desperate to keep their 24-year-old captain.

David Brekalo, a defender for Viking Stavanger, is the subject of other reports from Slovenia, and at this late point in the window, a return to the European market cannot be ruled out. However, not having a second center-half would not be catastrophic given that Joel Latibeaudiere has been doing an excellent job in the left-sided position of the back three and that Luis Binks is eagerly awaiting his opportunity. It would only become a problem if one of the center backs had an injury or experienced a sharp decline in performance.

The manager is looking for a player to assist cover the gap left by Hamer in the midfield, a player who can play all over the field.

CoventryLive has learned that the 24-year-old, who has previously been connected with Leeds United, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich Town, is not being pursued by City. Although he might be available on loan, it is reported that Forest want to recoup the £10m they paid Huddersfield for his services.
