The ideal deadline day for Leicester City revolves around a transaction they shouldn’t make because Enzo Maresca’s team needs to be simplified but some players are too crucial to part ways with.

Although it is surprising that Kelechi Iheanacho is still a member of City, the fact that he is still there implies the team needs to make sure he is there tomorrow as well.

The Nigerian performs best as the striker in Enzo Maresca’s system. Iheanacho’s hold-up play ensures the ball stays in the final third, allowing City to move the ball there knowing that the wingers, midfielders, and even the defenders will be able to locate him as a focal point.

After finishing that task, he poses a threat to himself.

Iheanacho should have received interest from Premier League clubs the instant City moved down a league because of these qualities, especially with only one year left on his contract. However, rumors of interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest swiftly died down, and all was calm until the last week, when West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Wolves emerged as potential suitors.

On deadline day, offers might be made. While it would take a bid close to £20 million to convince City to sell Iheanacho, club supporters and perhaps even Maresca would hope that doesn’t tempt them.
