In the last hours of the transfer window, Michael Beale’s plans were revised due to factors at Ibrox that were shifting.
After making nine signings earlier in the summer, the Englishman said on Friday afternoon that he will not be adding to his team during the final hours of business on deadline day.

Beale has previously stated that he planned to double the size of his recruitment campaign this season by bringing in a center-back and a winger to replace Ryan Kent.

However, a bid for a stopper—rumored to be Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty—failed to materialize, while Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence’s recent comebacks have offered Beale new ideas.

To compete with Ben Davies, Beale said, “We went a long way down the road for a left sided center-back early in the window.

“A Premier League club outbid us, paying more than we were prepared to spend. The Board and I were there. We believed the payment to be excessive given the player’s value. We also wanted to see if someone from within could step up in order to obtain a dribbler for wide areas, and we got a little step up from Rabbi Matondo and the return of fitness from Tom Lawrence, which gives me a lot of hope.

“I believe Tom will be prepared by the time we return from the international break.”
