Hugo Lloris’ contract may be terminated by Tottenham if he doesn’t complete a move by the deadline, according to sources speaking to Football Insider.
The 36-year-old Spurs player was approached by Nice after they tore up Kasper Schmeichel’s contract and was also offered a late switch to Premier League club Newcastle.
Lloris, though, was unable to reach an agreement and has decided to remain in north London despite being cut from the team by new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The World Cup champion from France has one more year left on his contract and was given permission to look for a new team over the summer.
Spurs may now agree to pay off their veteran captain and let him become a free agent.
After Postecoglou was hired, Lloris was replaced in goal for Tottenham.
Early in the summer transfer season, Gugliemo Vicario left Empoli for a reported initial cost of £17.2 million.
The Italian has participated in all three Premier League games thus far, recording two shutouts while allowing two goals.
In addition to Fraser Forster playing in goal for the League Cup defeat to Fulham earlier this week (29 August), Lloris has been left out of every matchday squad thus far this season.
Last season, the veteran Spurs player made 31 appearances in all
competitions but was removed in the second half of the season due to a confluence of injuries and poor play.
Lloris joined Tottenham from Lyon in 2021 and has since made 447 appearances, including 361 Premier League games.
On Saturday, September 2, Postecoglou’s team plays freshly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor.
