For Everton, the day of the summer transfer deadline proved to be difficult.
In his own words, manager Sean Dyche acknowledged that the Toffees’ lack of activity on the last day of the market was not ‘optimal’. Even though Everton was negotiating arrangements, Dyche acknowledged that they did not benefit the team financially.
In the meanwhile, Tom Cannon joined Leicester City for about £7.5 million, Neal Maupay joined Brentford on loan, and Alex Iwobi was sold to Fulham for almost £22 million.
As a result, some fans are worried that Everton’s roster might be a little low on options. The Blues had just seven players available for Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Sheffield United, including two goalkeepers, and have only won one of their first four games.
To be fair, Everton has a very long injury list for this point in the season. Michael Keane and Lewis Dobbin both missed the match at Bramall Lane due to injuries. However, it’s uncommon for every participant to be accessible for a sizable portion of a campaign.
Even though the transfer window has closed, Everton is still able to sign players. Clubs can still add free agents to their rosters to strengthen them. In light of that, let’s take a look at some potential Toffee candidates.
Jesse Lingard 2.
Prior to joining Nottingham Forest last summer, the attacking midfielder was linked with Everton, but he only managed two goals in 20 appearances at the City Ground. Over the summer, Lingard worked out with his old team, West Ham.
Alfred Morelos 3.
The striker scored 124 goals for Rangers over the course of six seasons, but his ability to transition to the Premier League and his disciplinary history both raise doubts.
Roberto Pereyra (4)
The dynamic midfielder played alongside current Everton acquisition Beto for the previous three seasons at Udineses. In 36 games played last season, he scored five goals, and while at Watford, he gained Premier League experience.
