Kasper Schmeichel was a target for Nottingham Forest in the summer, but he has now committed to Anderlecht. Instead, Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos were acquired by the Reds during the transfer window.
The seasoned stopper is currently traveling to Belgium, according to the Daily Mail. After leaving Nice on a free transfer, he will sign a one-year contract.
If they had acquired the Premier League champion, the Reds would have completed the signing of a fantastic player. His leadership abilities would have been obvious because he has a wealth of experience in the top level.
Schmeichel played for Leicester for 11 years. He played in the Champions League, won the FA Cup with the Foxes, and coached the squad to the Premier League championship.
When he decided to move to Nice in the summer of 2022, it came as a bit of a shock. He moved to Ligue 1 for a new chapter after making 479 appearances for the team with its headquarters in the East Midland
He will now travel to Anderlecht in an effort to change their situation. This season hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts for them; they’ve already been eliminated from Europe.
Brendan Rodgers lavished praise on Schmeichel while he was with Leicester. When he was in charge of him, he described him as “absolutely outstanding” and “brilliant.”
Schmeichel is prepared to take on Anderlecht’s forest.
Schmeichel, who is currently 36 years old, still has a lot to contribute and will probably develop into a true leader of the Anderlecht team.
However, Forest won’t be overly picky. They acquired two of their own international goalkeepers during the transfer window, and they are well-equipped for the upcoming campaign.
Schmeichel believes he can continue to play for a few more years. He would have been helpful for Forest despite his advancing years, but they will feel that they signed choices with a little more left in the tank than the Premier League champion.
