Brendan Rodgers emphasized the stark financial disparity between Celtic and the English-based football clubs.
Even in comparison to English Championship teams, Celtic’s lack of financial clout has long been a problem. This economic gap has only seemed to grow wider over time.

Celtic has deliberately scouted for talent in other markets to get around these budgetary constraints. By providing better terms to players eager to go to Scotland, the club has been able to sign several important players and set itself apart from its rivals.
However, the picture is quite different when it comes to European competitions. Data from Swiss Ramble shows that Celtic’s payroll budget is £18 million higher than that of Pot 1 team Feyenoord. However, they are overwhelmed by Atletico Madrid, whose stunning £156 million higher annual pay spend puts them below Lazio by £25 million.

This demonstrates that even though some teams, like Lazio or Atletico, have larger budgets, Celtic can at least compete in Europe.

On TalkSPORT, Rodgers commented on this discrepancy and said, “It’s a night and day difference. I entered this building with the utmost respect and observed some of the boys’ salaries. I am well aware of the low levels in England, and they are quite terrifying.
