Maccabi Tel Aviv of the Israeli Premier League is showing interest in former West Brom player Romaine Sawyers.
Cardiff City, a Championship opponent of the Baggies, made Sawyers available for transfer earlier in the transfer window.
The 31-year-old missed out on a transfer to an English team, but he may now have the chance to play outside of his native country for the first time in his career. He had been linked to a transfer to Rotherham United, but the move fell through, and he is now looking for his third club in 18 months
According to a TransferMarkt rumor, Tel-Aviv is considering Sawyers. Robbie Keane, a former striker for Aston Villa, Wolves, and Spurs, is the manager of Tel-Aviv.
One of the biggest clubs in Israel, Tel-Aviv, is participating in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage. Although Keane hasn’t yet asked any British players to travel to Israel with him, Sawyers could handle his transfer negotiations while the window is still open there until September 20, 2023.
When asked about Sawyers by WalesOnline in August, Sawyers’ current club manager, Erol Bulut, said: “If he does not receive minutes here at the age of 31, it would be better if he looks at leaving, to play for at least another four or five years as he is planning to play till at least 35/36.
“He spoke with his agent.” I believe that he is trying. Because he is a terrific player—in fact, he is a really good player—he will discover something.
Regarding Sawyers’ connection to West Brom, he was reportedly a £2.2 million acquisition for the team in 2019. He joined from Brentford for a second time and made 64 total appearances for them, but only managed one goal and an assist.
