Miguel Almiron has a strong case for being the most well-known Paraguayan football player in Premier League history.
Roque Santa Cruz would undoubtedly disagree, but Almiron is still one of Newcastle’s major players, whereas the aforementioned forward found it difficult to adjust to life at Manchester City.
Almiron appears certain to maintain his starting position for at least one more season given that no right-winger was added during the summer transfer window.
Another native playing in the English Premier League is Julio Enciso of Brighton, who, if he keeps up his current form on the south coast, might someday surpass Almiron as Paraguay’s top player.
There is currently another name to take into account.
Miguel Almiron rejoices that Enso Gonzales has joined Wolves.
Almiron is happy to see Paraguayan winger Enso Gonzales, 19, play in the Premier League after Wolves made a late bid to sign him from Libertad.
Almiron told La Nacion: “Players going to the Premier, such a tough league, where there are very talented players, is something really positive for Paraguayan soccer.
“I believe that’s beneficial for all of us. It is crucial for Paraguayan football that they have such opportunity overseas.
Almiron can continue to establish himself as Paraguay’s shining example.
Almiron would become Paraguay’s most prosperous export to the Premier League if he could overcome a challenging start to this campaign and reach the heights of last time out.
It would be quite an accomplishment for a player whose final product was so frequently questioned only a short while ago to contribute to Newcastle’s line-up at a very high level for two seasons in a row.
Almiron was one of the stars of the previous season, but it’s unclear if he can maintain that level of success.
It would be a glorious moment for Paraguayan football if he could.
