When the transfer window reopens in January, rumors claim that Chelsea are mulling a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

The Blues are lacking in strikers despite once again spending absurd amounts of money this summer.

A significant knee injury has forced new signing, Christopher Nkunku to spend an extended amount of time on the sidelines, and Armando Broja has been sidelined since December of last year.

This leaves Nicolas Jackson, who has scored once in four Premier League games thus far, as the only natural center-forward option available to Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea struggled mightily to score last season as well, scoring only 38 goals in the Premier League as a whole. They ultimately placed in the top 12 due to this, which was the main factor.

In light of this, Pochettino appears to be considering Watkins as a potential addition to Chelsea’s January roster as further strong competition for Jackson.

Chelsea targeted Watkins as their target.
The Blues are reportedly considering signing Watkins in January, according to writer Simon Phillips, who was speaking about Chelsea’s transfer targets on his podcast Si Phillips Talks Chelsea (via Football 365).

Dusan Vlahovic was undoubtedly considered throughout the summer, according to Phillips. He remains there. Lille’s Jonathan David. Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa is the last.

Watkins was perhaps Aston Villa’s most crucial player as they secured a seventh-place finish and qualified for Europe for the first time since 2010. Watkins scored an astonishing 15 goals in 37 Premier League games for Aston Villa.

Numerous elite teams have taken notice of his excellent accomplishments. Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham have all expressed interest in Watkins, as previously reported by TEAMtalk.

Unai Emery, the manager of Villa, is naturally motivated to cling onto the England international for as long as possible. Watkins and the Villains have been negotiating for some time about signing a new contract, but no deal has yet been reached. His current contract expires in 2025.

A large transfer sum might persuade Aston Villa to sell Watkins as soon as possible. According to reports, the Midlands club would want between £50 million and £60 million for him.
