Nadiem Amiri’s unsuccessful summer transfer to Leeds United caused Bayer Leverkusen to decide against including him in the Europa League squad.
He is thought to have no future at the Bundesliga club, according to the German newspaper’s print version from Wednesday, September 13 (C5).
The 26-year-old was set to be signed by Leeds and Leverkusen for a fee, according to the same publication (30 August, C5), but he decided against going to Elland Road.
His error
During the summer transfer window, Leeds did everything they could to persuade Amiri to transfer to Elland Road.
He seemed to have made commitments to several clubs before abandoning all plans and deciding to remain in Germany.
Leverkusen probably anticipated that he would leave and earn money from his sale, but his refusal to do so put that in peril.
In some ways, it’s a good thing that the Whites didn’t sign him because he didn’t seem to want the move as badly as they did.
The last thing Daniel Farke would have wanted at Elland Road is for a player to down their equipment, which is the situation in this scenario.
Amiri won’t be missed because Leeds added three midfielders and are currently in greater shape than they were a month ago.
