After Wrexham had a significant finance setback, Ryan Reynolds made light of the situation by joking that he would sell one of his kids to pay for a £20 million problem.
The Hollywood actor is renowned for his lighthearted attitude, and it seems even with a significant professional setback, he can even find the humor in things. The upcoming second season of the popular docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham” features a story about one such mishap.
A key lesson from the first season was the “Deadpool” superstar’s hands-on attitude to his duties as co-chairman of the Red Dragons. It is evident that his commitment has not diminished. In fact, his annoyance at the club’s lack of Levelling Up funds is evident in the first episode of the FX series.
The National League champions submitted an application to the government fund in an effort to kick up construction on the Racecourse Ground renovation. The funds were intended specifically for the renovation of their Kop stand’s western side.
The concept essentially entails plans for a hotel, prospective meeting spaces, and parking spaces near Wrexham’s home field. The historic stadium would have a 5,500-capacity stand built there to increase its capacity to 16,000 people.
In the video, Shaun Harvey, the club’s board’s strategic advisor, is seen telling co-owners Reynolds and Rob McElhenney the bad news. He explained to the well-known pair via video call that “18 months’ worth of work trying to get funding for the Kop has just gone up in smoke.”
