The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) must continue to support Newcastle United for the foreseeable future if they are to have more than simply hope of becoming the best team in both the Premier League and Europe.

Despite the fact that PIF is thought to have enormous resources at their disposal, that may not first seem to be a problem, it is obvious that the owners will want to start experiencing some real success in due course.

Last season, when they lost to Man United in the Carabao Cup final, the Magpies were dangerously close to ending their long drought of winning championships.

Close but no cigar isn’t going to fly with the owners, so Eddie Howe and his team are under pressure to perform well despite this.

The better players they need to sign the more successful the club will become, even though they already have one on staff who is negotiating a new contract.

The Telegraph (subscription required) reports that Joelinton, who joined St. James’ Park from Hoffenheim in a £40 million move, is in negotiations for a new contract.

The Brazilian hasn’t been at his best this season, like a number of Newcastle players, but with the Champions League just around the corner, he has the ideal chance to turn that around.
