The Reds’ manager has already dealt with a number of ailments since the team returned to the EFL as he prepares for tomorrow’s League Two match at The STóK Cae Ras against Grimsby Town.

With James McClean away on international service with the Republic of Ireland, Anthony Forde, Jacob Mendy, and Bryce Hosannah were among the wing-back players who missed last Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Liam McAlinden entered on the left for his first league start of the season as Parkinson was short on bodies but still had choices.

You will experience niggles, Parkinson remarked, but the squad is there to deal with them.

“To manage injuries, as we demonstrated at the weekend when we were missing quite a few players, especially in the wing-back position.

“Liam entered that circumstance and gave us everything.

He hasn’t played much football, but last Tuesday he participated in the EFL Trophy.

The guys were happy for Liam that he contributed because he is a terrific squad player and a great player to have in the group every day.

While star striker Paul Mullin and recent acquisition Steven Fletcher staked their bids for a starting position after both featured as second-half substitutes against Doncaster, center-back Aaron Hayden is out due to injury and McClean is available tomorrow.

During the team’s preseason tour of America, Mullin suffered a punctured lung and four shattered ribs, but he returned to action this past weekend with veteran frontman
