Following his exclusion from Brendan Rodgers’ Champions League squad, Celtic full-back Alexandro Bernabei’s future has been called into question.
The £3.75 million 2022 summer signing hasn’t had much of an effect at the Hoops, and it appears that Liam Scales’ arrival has further distanced him from contention.
And commentator Gordon Dalziel thinks it’s possible given what he saw from the Argentine during Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Rangers at Ibrox two weeks ago.
It’s a little concerning for him, Dalziel remarked [Clyde SSB]. I believed he was joining Celtic in a successful game. Then, all of a sudden, he enters the game against the Rangers and appears to be significantly out of breath.
“He appeared to be jogging throughout the game. He occasionally struck me as being a little indifferent, which I hate to say about football players.
And I believe Brendan Rodgers made the right choice when he said, “I’m going with someone like [Liam] Scales. He has the opportunity to play left center-back like he did in the past.
What happens next for Bernabei at Celtic?
This morning, John Hartson, a former Celtic star, was quoted by TBR Celtic as saying that Bernabei still has a future with the team.
When you consider that he has only made 21 appearances for Celtic, with the majority of those coming off the bench, it is quite challenging to understand how.
Greg Taylor, who has excelled for Celtic over the past two years, needed competition, so Bernabei was brought in. But the development of Scales as a versatile alternative for Brendan Rodgers may be the last straw for the left-back.
What will happen to Bernabei can only be predicted with time. It doesn’t bode well for the player, though, to be kept out of such an important European squad when he has cost the team close to £4 million.
