After Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool extended his dismal record at the stadium, West Ham manager David Moyes said he is “fed up” of leaving Anfield wondering what might have been.

While Moyes’ Premier League winless streak at Anfield has grown to 19 games throughout the course of his tenure, his West Ham team has come close to reversing the pattern multiple times in recent years.

The host team had won both of the Hammers’ previous visits by a score of 1-0, with Jarrod Bowen missing a penalty in the match from last season.

Mohamed Salah’s first-half penalty was successfully cancelled out by Bowen this afternoon with a magnificent header, but the Hammers missed a number of other chances before Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota’s goals helped Jurgen Klopp’s team secure what was ultimately a well-earned three points.

We did a pretty decent job, according to Moyes, in the first half. Even in the second half, the second goal disappointed me. Although we were constantly under pressure, there were many lessons to learn from the game. We came and gave it a shot.

“I’m more upset with the second and third goals, perhaps the third more so because even though the score is 2-1, we’re still in the game. The game to win anything is still going on.

We did a lot of positive things and performed quite well, in my opinion. But I leave here saying the same things far too frequently, so I’m getting a little tired of repeating it.

“Liverpool will have ten opportunities, whereas you might only get three if you come here. You have to hope that nine of them will go unnoticed. When you acquire three, you have to believe that you can use two of them to achieve a goal.

Moyes claimed that he had no remorse about ending Jesse Lingard’s time spent working with the team. Lingard, a free agent who had been working on improving his fitness at the London Stadium during the 2020–21 season, had a good loan stint there.

That agreement ended this week, though, as Lingard traveled to Saudi Arabia to train with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq team.

Moyes continued, “I’m quite at ease and more than relaxed about it. We really like Jesse, but I’m not sure if we really need another guy to fill Jesse’s position.
