The manager of Leicester City, who hasn’t managed the team since leaving in 2015, has issued a message to the organization and its supporters.
Nigel Pearson, a former manager of Leicester City, has thanked the club and the supporters for the kind reception they gave him and his staff upon their return to the King Power Stadium.
The manager’s match against Bristol City on Saturday was his first game back in that capacity since he left the team following the great escape season in 2015. Enzo Maresca is attempting to imitate Pearson, the last manager to guide City to promotion from the Championship.
Former City midfielders Andy King and Matty James, as well as former physio Dave Rennie, all made their first appearances since leaving the club during the game. All of them received a hearty welcome, and King and James even performed a lap of honor following the match.
King, who was obviously moved by the City fans’ ovation, posted a sincere message on social media on Sunday morning. Pearson has since followed suit. The manager could not walk around the field since he was using crutches, but he thanked the crowd when his name was sung after the final whistle.
“I want to thank the @BristolCity and @LCFC fans for the wonderful support for myself and staff, yesterday,” Pearson wrote on X (previously Twitter). The #LCFC treated our families with utmost respect and generosity. On behalf of their families, thank you from the four of us.
City won the match 1-0, with Jamie Vardy netting the game-winning penalty in the second half after Kal Naismith had tripped Wilfred Ndidi. As a result, Maresca’s team, which has won seven of its eight league games this year, topped the Championship standings.
