Players from Coventry City Fabio Tavares and Jake Bidwell attended the weekly Adult Disability session of Sky Blues in the Community at the Moat House Leisure Center at the end of last month.
The Sky Blues team attends a variety of community appearances and events each month, including activities for fans groups and Sky Blues in the Community.
All people with disabilities who are older than 18 are welcome to attend the SBitC Adult Disability session that Fabio and Jake attended.
Since 2018, Sky Blues in the Community has been conducting this program. The session’s goal is to unite those who have a disability and want to form enduring friendships while remaining active by playing football.
At the session’s conclusion in August, Fabio and Jake came to say hello to the attendees. On the day of the event, both players were outstanding. They made care to speak with each participant one-on-one then gathered everyone together for a 15-minute Q&A to answer any questions.
During the tour, Tavares and Bidwell both took part in a crossbar challenge with the visitors, which they all found to be a lot of fun.
The event’s inclusion coordinator, Alex Jane, offered the following insight into how attendees benefited:
“Having Jake and Fabio present for today’s practice was incredible. Numerous participants who attend this program on a weekly basis are ardent Sky Blues supporters who attend both home and away games.
“Having two heroes among them
Also asked were the participants’ thoughts on their surprise visit.
Comment from a participant:
“Today was incredible. I enjoy going to football on Tuesdays because it allows me to socialize with my friends while still keeping fit. When the coach and Tavares and Bidwell entered the field, I was in amazement. I wanted to shout that I attend every home game for City and am a passionate supporter.
“It is a dream come true to be able to converse with them in person, make jokes, and play a little football with two of my heroes. The upcoming visit is something I am really anticipating. I’ll bring my shirt so I can have it signed.
