Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder for Leicester City, has had a strong start to the 2023–24 season following, in reality, a subpar prior year.
The Foxes currently have a plethora of midfield alternatives at their disposal, but the Nigerian appears to be one of their better choices and is settling in well to a new advanced role under Enzo Maresca.
However, his status with the club is not fixed.
At the conclusion of this season, Ndidi’s contract ends, and the team may decide to sell a player who has been so valuable to them over the years.
In the summer, Nottingham Forest expressed interest in the midfielder, and TalkSPORT claimed that the player was about to switch East Midlands teams.
However, the Tricky Trees ultimately decided against signing Ndidi and instead chose to recruit Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven, an additional African midfielder.
The FIVE players Leicester should sign to replace the 26-year-old if he does leave the Foxes during the January transfer window are listed below.
Ebou Adams
According to FBRef, the Cardiff City midfielder has a great tackling game. He has won 80% of his tackles this season and averages around 6 tackles per 90 minutes, which places him among the top five midfielders in the Championship.
The contract of the Gambian player won’t run out until the summer of 2025. He won’t be selling for less than his market value, in contrast to Ndidi. Transfermakrt.com estimates his worth at just around £175,000.
He is a midfield stopper who might be developed in the future, which would be in line with the team’s transfer policy.
Cameron Brannagan
Teams at a higher level were keeping an eye on the Oxford United midfielder throughout the summer transfer window, with Bristol City being one among them.
However, the U’s did well to hold onto him, and he’s contributed to the team’s decisions throughout the past year.
Brannagan has been performing exceptionally well in League One for a time, and he appears prepared for the promotion.
Although a team like Leicester could be too much at once, he appears to be at least Championship level and has a solid resume after rising through the levels at Liverpool.
Siebe Schrijvers
The 27-year-old midfielder has established himself as one of the best in the Belgian Pro League at his position.
He has a 7.56/10 overall Sofascore so far this year.
His innate ability to be a particularly successful box-to-box midfielder is demonstrated by his average heatmap, which displays what areas of the field he covers the most.
He can be a goal danger on top of his unrelenting stamina and consistency.
In eight games with Oud-Heverlee Leuven, he has one goal and three significant scoring opportunities.
Mutassim Al Musrati
Musrati is a Portuguese player for SC Braga, where he has excelled greatly.
The international from Libya has two league goals to his credit and has won two thirds of his tackles this year.
He’s a player who keeps an eye on the middle of the field and is always prepared to put out fires.
With a price tag of just under £14 million, the 27-year-old would be the most expensive person on this list thus far.
Mathieu Choinière
This season in the MLS, Choinière has constantly displayed strong performance.
He might not possess the defensive prowess of someone like Ndidi, but he would be more versatile.
The 24-year-old has a goal and an assist in him, can play through the middle and as a full back, and is in the top half of midfielders globally for tackles made.
