In the 36th minute of Saturday’s League Two home match against Crewe Alexandra that ended 3-3, the Wrexham wing-back was sent by referee Lee Swabey for a late challenge on Shillow Tracey.
Parkinson didn’t think Swabey’s contentious choices during the derby encounter merited a dismissal, but the appeal was denied, and Barnett’s three-match suspension began on Tuesday night as Wrexham drew 0-0 with Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
The manager of the Reds was unhappy with the result.
We carefully examined the incident and slowed it down, Parkinson added.
“It’s just a joke how the guys on the panel haven’t been overturned, and the lad from Crewe got contact with Barney.
“I had a gut feeling we would be excused after seeing it and the communication we had with the officials.
“I would love the chance to sit down with the two and ask, ‘Let me watch it with you, how have you determined that?’ It appears that the three males on the panel voted two to one.
It’s like the VAR team examines an incident and yet makes a mistake.
Barney is really disappointed that they still got it incorrect after having plenty of time to consider it, but we go on.
Jacob Mendy served in place of injured Anthony Forde at Mansfield as the right wing-back.
Mendy is more comfortable playing on the left flank, although Parkinson thought he improved.
“The frustrating thing for us is that Fordey has got a little injury as well, so we have had to adapt a little bit,” continued Parkinson.
Jacob developed into playing right wing-back.
He has previously played there while he was a student at Wealdstone, but it does take some getting used to.
