Silko Thomas, a former Sunderland trialist, has agreed to join Championship rivals Leicester City.
Earlier this summer, Thomas participated in friendlies for the Black Cats’ under-21 team against Kings Lynn Town and Huddersfield Town, scoring in both contests.
In addition to playing for Chelsea at the under-18, under-19, under-21, and under-23 levels during his time at Stamford Bridge, the attacker was released by the club at the end of the season and has been connected with Blackburn Rovers.
Thomas spent some time this summer on trial with Sheffield United, a recently promoted Premier League team, before joining the Black Cats.
However, following that trial, Thomas’ transfer to Leicester City on what is believed to be a three-year deal has finally been made public both the player and club.
Sunderland and the players who were on trial this summer agreed not to sign each other, according to academy coach John Hewitson.
After leaving the aforementioned teams, Thomas, 19, and Blackpool academy graduate Bobby Bjork, 18, both played for the Black Cats’ under-21 team in a friendly match against Huddersfield in August.
During the summer, 18-year-old Swedish midfielder Gideon Granstrom also participated in trials with Sunderland and Norwich.
Hewitson responded to The Echo’s inquiry concerning recent trial participants and their fates by saying, “The club elected not to pursue and the boys chose to go elsewhere.
“It’s just one of those things. That was something we looked at, and although we tried several approaches, it didn’t work out.
It’s just one of those things, so we go on and look at other people.
