David Martindale, the manager of Livingston, has praised Rangers’ decision to look closer to home in their search for a new hire—and a prospective transfer for ex-Celtic defender Malky Mackay.
Malky Mackay, the manager of Ross County, and Derek McInnes, the manager of Kilmarnock, were both named by Lions boss Martindale as prospective candidates for the Rangers management position.
These are two of Scotland’s greatest managers, according to David Martindale, who himself was briefly considered for the position at Ibrox and claimed both might perform well in Govan.
“Derek (McInnes) and Malky (Mackay) are two top, top managers,” declared David Martindale.
“I believe either of those two could work at a team the size of Celtic or Rangers.
“I don’t let these foreign names, which are allegedly superior coaches, get me all worked up. There are several managers in Scottish and English football who are capable of doing a job.
“Occasionally, we get the idea that we need to seek elsewhere for a terrific skill set that someone has successfully marketed from outside. There, I only mentioned two names. Malky is a top-notch manager, while Derek is one of the finest players in the league.
Malky Mackay is expected to join the Rangers
Although we are positive that neither of these options will appease an irate Rangers fan base, David Martindale’s argument has some merit.
The Gers are currently caught between two universes and are fighting to reclaim the Ibrox identity that has made the club so successful.
Malky Mackay hasn’t been mentioned in the news, unlike Derek McInnes, who may not have been the most popular choice for the Rangers manager position.
Aside from the fact that Malky Mackay was a star for Celtic in the past, the Ross County manager hasn’t done anything in his career to warrant a job with Rangers.
Malky Mackay played for the Parkhead team for five years in the 1990s and witnessed Rangers’ dominance of Scottish football; something tells us if he were to secure the job, there would be a stir.
