Leicester City have been caught in the crossfire of a below the belt dig from Trent Alexander-Arnold aimed at James Maddison. The duo were on opposing sides when Maddison helped Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-1 win over Liverpool last month. But victory was achieved in controversial circumstances for the former Foxes man and his team.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has since called for the game to be replayed, after Luis Diaz had a goal wrongly disallowed. Maddison then took the opportunity to taunt Alexander-Arnold about the incident when they linked up with England this week.
However, the midfielder received a stinging response. And Alexander-Arnold took it a step further by dragging City into the mix.
Maddison, who left the King Power Stadium for Spurs in a £40 million move in the summer, tagged Alexander-Arnold in an Instagram story which showed a picture of them both chatting. Captioning the photo, he quipped the Liverpool man was “still asking for a replay”.
Asked whether that was the case, Alexander-Arnold told Channel 4: “Nah. No, he was asking me how to teach him how to put a free-kick in the top corner. But, I told him I’d just show him the video of when I scored at Leicester last year and they got relegated, so…”
Maddison has made a positive impression at his new club. He left City after a five-year spell which saw him make more than 200 appearances.
