It may help West Ham’s prospects of acquiring the 23-year-old Arsenal star that David Ornstein has eliminated Newcastle from the transfer race.

The Athletic journalist admitted that he is unaware of the North-East club’s interest in Smith Rowe, yet he would not be shocked if other clubs outside of Newcastle shared their enthusiasm for the Arsenal star.

West Ham was listed as another club interested in signing Smith Rowe in reports from The Northern Echo and The Sun, both on October 12. Ornstein’s update may have helped the Hammers’ prospects.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Smith Rowe is admired at Newcastle and elsewhere, Ornstein wrote in answer to a query during The Athletic’s Q&A session on October 12.

I was aware of the reports this morning and have the utmost respect for the work of other journalists, but I am not aware of Newcastle pursuing him.

“However, his circumstance is definitely one to watch.”

The Hammers may benefit from Ornstein’s recommendation that they keep an eye on Smith Rowe’s status because they are currently the only team that appears to be reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old, despite the fact that other teams are probably also interested given the caliber of his talent.

If a move is planned, West Ham’s strong start to the season, recent trophy wins, participation in European play, and proximity to East London from North London might make them an appealing proposition.

However, there have been recent rumors [Claret & Hugh] claiming that the Hammers have no money to spend in January due to their extravagant spending in the summer transfer window in an effort to replace Declan Rice, which of course would eliminate them from contention.

But if West Ham is interested in Smith Rowe, this development will have given them more assurance in their pursuit.
