It’s reasonable to conclude that Luka Modric’s time at Tottenham has left the club’s supporters with positive memories.

The Croatian was outstanding for Tottenham and has since gone on to surpass everyone’s expectations by winning numerous awards at Real Madrid and even winning World Player of the Year.

The door may be open for Tottenham to seek to re-sign the storied midfielder now that Modric is playing a little part in Madrid. Luka Modric’s remarks provide a path for Tottenham to return.

This season, Carlo Ancelotti has primarily chosen to deploy younger midfielders. Modric is now sitting on the sidelines and not playing as much as he would like to. The Croatian has acknowledged that he doesn’t want to be idle all the time. The 38-year-old stated, “It’s definitely a different circumstance for me not to play as much as before and as much as I’d like.

I always want to play; I don’t want breaks or holidays; I want to play because that’s when I feel the greatest and how I prepare for games the best.

Therefore, Spurs would be wise to monitor the situation.

It would be wonderful to go back to North London.
Well, it would be if Tottenham were in contention to win the championship or, at the very least, place in the top four come January. Right now, it appears inevitable that Spurs will be included in that mix. And if Modric is still sidelined, he might be the ideal short-term acquisition to push Tottenham forward and bring the team some success.

Nobody who supports the Spurs would object to having Modric back. And if Modric’s quality is on a different level from that of the current Tottenham team, Spurs do have some good younger midfielders who are now performing well.

Modric would obviously need to be persuaded that the initiative was the right one before leaving Madrid. However, Tottenham will always hold a special place in his heart, and the way Ange Postecoglou is handling things at the moment, the seasoned midfielder may find it alluring.

Modric was only sold by Daniel Levy for £30m. A comeback in January and an impact on making the top four—or better—could ultimately offer a much-needed soother to the blow of that discount sale
